Featured Photographer of the Month
Rebecca Janecek's preferred medium is gelatin silver photography reminiscent
of a century ago. Her work draws from both the explorative spirit of the
pioneer photographer and the pictorial style popular at that time. Choosing
to focus on dramatic light and form, rather than details, her photographs
allude to a subliminal presence. The photographs are documentary and
geometric, yet often present an ethereal, evanescent flow or mist
descending, like a gift, before rising up again from the earth. While
capturing a precise moment, the images depict an endless cycle, making them
in effect, infinitely connected to all time.
Rebecca Janecek is an artistic documentary photographer. She has had
several solo exhibits at the Concourse Gallery and Gallery Obscura in San
Francisco. Rebecca also displays work in group shows including an upcoming
exhibit at Rayko Gallery opening June 2nd. Rebecca graduated from the
University of Texas with a bachelor of art degree. She studied photography
at City College of San Francisco under the expertise of Steve Kiser, a
traditional photographer who taught workshops with Ansel Adams and Oliver
Gagliani. Rebecca has lectured at City College on the continual and growing
need for black and white film and unaltered silver prints in the art and
science world. Rebecca's limited edition prints are in private collections
and commercial locations in the United Stated and Canada.
